What did Forbes see when exploring video marketing trends for 2015?

That online video advertising is going mainstream with visibility at the finger tips of millions. They also predicted some trends for online video in the upcoming year. They foresee Facebook overtaking Youtube for video views, the decline of the TV ad resonating with the viewer, emotionally driven videos, “moment marketing”, and attention as a vital metric.

So if video is part of your advertising strategy this year, you must choose the video production company that is right for you. And this can be a daunting task if you do not know what to look for.

We have compiled a list of a few tips and tricks to finding your best match.

1. Are they professional and organized?

Organization, organization, organization! Does this company have their assets in order? Do they outline for you the dates of production and review?  Do they follow through with scheduled meeting times? It’s true what they say about first impressions. Professionalism should be apparent right away.

2. Do they have notable clients and the work to back it up?

Do your research. Take a look at their website and social media. Do they have a portfolio of work displayed on multiple venues? Do they have high profile clients? It is also good to look for clients that are similar to your company or videos with a similar style you wish to achieve.

3. Do they care about your company?

It is important that the production company not only is passionate about what they do, but to show interest in what you do as well. Rest assured you will have a better end product if the production team shows genuine care about your company.

4. All about that workflow.

It is important to take notice if the company you have chosen takes certain steps during the production process.

First off, there should be an initial client assessment.

Next, a good production company should have a proper project inquiry form.

The following step should be to create a proposal deck. A proposal deck is simply the company’s pitch to you for the desired project. Often it is a slide-by-slide process using PowerPoint or Keynote.

A SOW should be created shortly after as well. SOW is a Statement of Work.  It is a formal document that captures and defines the work activities, deliverables, and timeline a vendor must execute in performance of specified work for a client.

With every project come certain milestones. They range from script to storyboard, design, first edit, and so on. It is imperative that dates are set for each milestone and that they allow proper times for you to review and give feedback.

Lastly, there is the file delivery. Finally the exciting part! So everything has come to fruition and it is now time for you to get your hands on that file. You should have a firm date for this delivery and stick to it. The production company most likely has a file transfer program they utilize unless specified to transfer in person.

5. Keep your budget in mind…

Money shouldn’t be the most important part of your search, but it is definitely something to be cognizant of. A great video advertisement can lead to thousands of dollars of revenue for your company. And in turn, a poor one may cause you to lose out. Therefore it isn’t always wise to go with your cheapest option. However always keep in mind what your company can afford to spend on the project.
